Help?! Is it worth becoming a nail technician?

Hi there, I live in Kissimmee, Florida and I am very passionate about doing nails. I would say that I am pretty talented with art and i have alot of really cool designs and ideas that people really dont see here. i have already purchased everything I need, even a pedicure chair! There is a hispanic/american hair salon nearby and the owner is willing to rent the nail desk and office ( so i can put the pedicure chair inside ) for $100 per week. I would be the only nail technician. I dont know, I have this great passion, and soo many good ideas and about 10 steady clients to start, but something still worries me........the economy i dont know what?......No matter what it is an investment and I am hoping to succeed. Is there anyone who knows anything about this buisness? or who can give any advice?...How much money is possible to make?Help?! Is it worth becoming a nail technician?
Yes, you can make a good living doing nails, especially if you are passionate %26amp; talented! But if you really want to pursue a career in the nail industry, you have to be prepared to stay in it even if you don't see ';big'; money at first. The money will come, it will be steady, and it will be good money IF you:

1. Get educated and stay educated. If you haven't gone to school and gotten your license, do it. Once you have your license, keep it current and get additional training by going to trade shows and classes offered by manufacturers and nail professionals. You can command more money when you are legit and you will be respected by clients and other nail professionals.

2. Care about building your business. Don't be wishy-washy with your hours or your prices. Be at your nail station whether you have clients or not. You can get tons of money from walk-in clients but you have to be there. Hand out cards to EVERYBODY. Get in the habit of thinking ';every person with nail beds is a potential client';.

3. Learn how to do ALL services. Don't say ';I won't do pedicures because I hate feet';. Pedicures will bring you sooooo much money in the summer you'll be beating clients away.

4. Don't ';deep discount'; if you are in a salon and paying booth rent. Instead, run specials. But your friends and family will run you out of business trying to get a full set for $15. Your business puts food on your table. And don't do nails at your home, ESPECIALLY if you are paying booth rent or working in a salon. Can you go to ';Mary's'; house and get a Big Mac? No, you have to go to McDonald's. Same with your services.

5. Stay connected to other nail techs - not just around your neighborhood, but around the world. There are great forums like BeautyTech.com where you can ask questions and get motivation. You will need it on those slow days. And the ultimate website for information, training, and motivation is the Tammy Taylor website. Once you go there, you'll be checking it everyday.

God Bless!Help?! Is it worth becoming a nail technician?
