Nail Technician Course?

Hi there,

I want to become a nail technician, but I don't want to go back to college. There are some courses down south that are intensive but they charge around 拢2000, to learn to do everything. Does anyone know of any courses that aren't as expensive. Thanx in advance. xNail Technician Course?
You could try The Nail Academy. They do 3 day intensive courses that teaches you everything that you need to know, and they give you a kit which contains everything you need to get you started and the charge 拢500 including the kit. They cover most of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire I think. They do allsorts of courses incl. manicure and pedicure. Give them a call on 01482 877269, or if you go to E bay the item number is 120219904707. Hope this helps.Nail Technician Course?

Nail technician courses in london...or home study?

i am 17 and want to do a nail technician course but i cant find any that are not to expensive...does anyone know of any???? ThankyouNail technician courses in london...or home study?
Hi,

I know what you mean!!

I went to the Nails and Beauty Academy to do my training. I went on a 5 day course called the Masters Diploma in Nail Technology - I learnt LOADS! I enrolled with a some friends and they gave us a 20% discount. There website address is: www.nailsandbeautyacademy.co.uk

I would seriously recommend them, the training is excellent and the teachers are so kind, informative and knowledgeable.

I hope this helps you a little bit, I just got lucky going with them but a few friends of mine spent a lot more than me elsewhere!

Good Luck

Hi, I'm about to take my nail technician test, and I am lost about what to study. what should i study?Nail Technician Test?
Read all your books or study materials from your Cosmetology school. The most important information I can give you is wash you hands before and after every operation, also be sure to properly sanitize your implements...Best of luck don't get nervous or you could forget what your doing

You probably need to check your local Yellow Pages or Business Directory for Nail Bars etc. for suitable businesses. Then write to them with your CV %26amp; details of your course, follow this up with visits to speak to Owners/Managers about vacancies. Hi, id like to work from home as i am qualified nail technician, how do i do this and what needs to be done..?

thanks xxxHi, id like to work from home as i am qualified nail technician, how do i do this and what needs to be done..?
Start at city hall (or the equivalent) as there are things that may need to be met such as parking restrictions, toxic waste disposal, handicap access, noise provisions, zoning, etc. You will also need a business license as well in addition to your license from cosmetology board.Hi, id like to work from home as i am qualified nail technician, how do i do this and what needs to be done..?
Since you are a qualified nail tech I don't think it should be difficult. I have an aunt who is a licensed hair dresser that works from home. I know she has a permit on the wall. If I were you I would contact a local law office to see what needs to be done legally for your state/county and go fro there. A lot of them will answer questions such as this without charging you. Hope this helps!

How can some nail technicians got their professional nails license when they are not even speak English?

they do not need to speak English to take the test.... the 1st half of the test written and it comes in many languages and the second half is actually doing nails... and you are not allowed to speak during that..... but i do know how you feel when they talk and you have no clue what they are saying. How can some nail technicians got their professional nails license when they are not even speak English?
what language are you speaking? How can some nail technicians got their professional nails license when they are not even speak English?
They give the test in their own language. They have an interpeter.
You are not even speak English either!
The tests are given in many languages....the result of not having an ';official language';.

I say to them, ';Please speak English.'; If they do not...then no tip at all. Sorry, but the Great Melting Pot is for Melting....Either join us or go back home.
Does it really matter as long as they are proficient at their job.
Oh I hate it when they talk to each other and laugh, I feel like they're talking about me or something! Freaks me out :l

I'd put fliers around shopping centres and anywhere there are community notice boards. If you are a member of daycare, I'd hand them around other mothers. Print business cards and hand them out to anyone who might be interested. Consider your target audience and how you might reach them. The best advertising is references from people who have used the product or service so make sure you treat your clients right.

Best wishes to you and your baby.
    dnt no???????
You need a logo, and some business cards to put the logo on. I'd also advise making some flyers and putting them up all over, gyms, stores, anywhere there is a bulletin board.

It just so happens, I create logos for a living!! I also design business cards. Here is my website, have a look, maybe I can help you with your new business. Best of luck to you.

put an ad in the newspaper, small enough to be affordable but eye catching and interesting. make flyers to put at places like tanning beds, hair salons, things of that sort.
Do a COUPLE hands for free. And Give your close friends free or discounted work. The by word of mouth you'll get business.

LADIES!!!!!!!!!!!! Have u ever been to the nail shop and the nail technician was so rude..?

What's ur story? Did u leave or still sat and got ur nails done..LADIES!!!!!!!!!!!! Have u ever been to the nail shop and the nail technician was so rude..?
    YES!!!

What is with some of these nail salons.....poor customer service! I feel so bad for the ladies who work there they sacrifice their own nails and hands to help makes others look great, so I usually tip them very well and if i'm going into a new place I walk in with a good attitude but damn, i've been to a couple places where they were just flat out rude. (Ignoring me completely when I walked in and they weren't busy, just chatting with each other! It took about 10 minutes before someone finally decided to help me.)

I usually just sit there and let them do my nails even if they are rude. If they are doing a bad job then I will say something...I mean come on, i'm not paying them to make my nails look worse than when I walked in the door!LADIES!!!!!!!!!!!! Have u ever been to the nail shop and the nail technician was so rude..?
Yeah, she didn't even bother to have a conversation with me and she wasn't very friendly at all, but I stayed and took it then I tipped her ten bucks so next time she won't judge so quickly and belittle someone, after that she carried my purse for me and asked if I like anything else...;)(people)
Ohh yes. My mum's normal nail salon was closed for the day, and so she took me to a nail salon we've never been to before. It was my first and only time I've gotten my nails done, and the nail technicians were talking in Vietnamese to each other and didn't even bother to look at us. Then when my mum was telling them what she wanted, they looked at her like she was interrupting their conversation. My friend taught me a little Vietnamese, and I heard them talking about how I was a spoiled little girl for getting my nails done at my age and how my mum acted haughty because she was pretty. It was a baddd experience.
    Yeah she was like, ';You have boyfriend? Why you no have?'; ';You so preetty, like modeell'; ';DO you want Cryssal Gell?'; ';That's why you no have boyfriend!';';Cuz you don't have Cryssal Gell';';Only 3 dollas more!';
    surprisingly no
yes and i stayed cuz she was doing an alright job. she was mad at me for not taking my nail polish of in advacne so her and her friend were talking in vietnamese or something to each other and pointing to me. lmao. iaws just like HELLO. then they left me there for a while. so NO TIP.
I am a nail tech and I try not to be rude but sometimes clients can be a pain too.Showing up late,no shows, dumping all their problems on me...but for the most part I love what I do and most of my clients are awesome.I have crappy fingernails myself though, and my wrists are starting to ache sometimes...also the dust ...I am covered in it by the end of the day.I try to be nice to everyone though

The naming of your business could be one of the most important decisions you will make. A name's originality and legal availability will create a real asset value of its own, as it becomes marketed and gains market acceptance.

The name you choose will become the focal point of all the benefits and features that relate to your business. Customers will be able to find and refer others to it in the future.

Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route...

I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a ';name party'; %26amp; have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.

I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what's out there.

Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free %26amp; a great place to start, so I'd try them out first.

Comprehensive research consists of looking at marks that are similar in Sound, Appearance or Meaning in the pending %26amp; registered Federal AND State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files.

There are other sites that offer free searching capabilities in conjunction with their commercial services, so I'm not able to post those links due to the Yahoo! TOS. You'll also want to check domain names %26amp; yellow pages, so simply do a search for ';free domain name search'; and ';national yellowpages'; and the appropriate links will pop up.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success %26amp; happiness in all your ventures!

Where abouts are you based. There is a place up north that offers short intensive courses which you can do one on one or in a class. To learn acrylics it is a one day course and costs 拢200. You can buy the kit from them as well for 拢60. They are really good and they stay with you untill your done. You get an IHBC diploma at the end of it which enables you to get insurance and a job in a salon if you wish. They are based in Yorkshire but she can travel.Becoming a nail technician?

um yeah most of nail techs are asian. and alot are males. and no i dont believe i have ever met one that seemed homosexual. usually you can tell and i have even been hit on by plenty asian male nail techs so they were straight. its just a job. they said they do it because it requries little training and pays good for the minimal training. i dont mind at all. i actually prefer the males because i feel that they admire and respect womens beauty and will pay greater attention to detail.

women can often be catty and jealous and not care what your nails turn out like.
first thing i think is that he's Asian ! And if he's not i'd probably think he's homo ... but that's just my opinion not the whole truth right !
For me I think they do a better job most of the time but I don't really care much

Did you ask a nail technician? They would know. Check the health law in your state online. If the implement used is made for manicures, then why not? As long as it is properly sterilized it shouldn't make a difference. You have a right to tell the manicurist to use a different tool but it doesn't sound as if anything was illegal. Are Nail Technicians Allowed to nip cuticles with nippers In Pennsylvania?

I went to a nail saloon (very cheap fills) and the girl didn't wear gloves....left me to do a wax/rip on a bearded lady and came back and started my nails again....never washed her hands. Can I ask that she wear gloves next time AND wash her hands in between procedures without being rude?Nail technician is dirty?
No. They need reported to the state cosmotolgy board.Nail technician is dirty?
I would just go to another salon---there are so many!
Yes, it is your right to ask. Eeewwwww.
    http://www.samliquidation.com/sec19.htm
Washing her hands inbetween doing someone else and you is something fair and easy to just say so (no easy way around it if the women thinks it rude oh, well). I have gone to nail salons for years and have never had anyone wear gloves. Don't see why they would be necessary for that. Only for a pedicure have I had someone wear gloves.
Run, do not walk to another salon. If she is not washing her hands when you are there watching.....just imagine what they are doing when no one is watching. Nail fungus is nothing to mess with! Get Out, FAST!
first before you jump, did you see her put gloves on to do the wax? to be perfectly honest there aren't ANY nail techs that wear gloves doing a fill or any nail enhancement...some may wear gloves to do a pedicure but that's it....now if she didnt wash her hands after doing the wax then that is a problem....if you saw this why would you go back????? i would change nail salons regardless if the fills are cheap(cheap does not always mean best)...you need to report her to state board because if you dont this could continue to happen and it may be more serious than what you saw....

I want to take the nail technician test I want to know what it will be like and what I should know.?

well first you have to go to a school that teaches you how to become a nail technician, (school of cosmetology) it's not as easy as people seem to think. you need to know the whole makeup of the nail, diesases of the nail etc.. you need to pass a written and practical exam to be a licensed nail tech. this whole process usually takes 3-6 months.

Training nail technician. do i have to pay 4 insurance 2 practise?

i have been training as a nail technichian and another girl on the course said that when we ';graduate'; and go to work elsewhere, we will have to pay an insurance policy in our own names, is this right???Training nail technician. do i have to pay 4 insurance 2 practise?
if you work for your self then yes get insurance it is not expensive from 50 to 拢85 for a year it is Worth it you will need public liability insurance this is even if you are mobile and not in your own salon. I have been running a hair and beauty business for 10 years and never needed it but i still get it every year just in case you will be covered for 拢1000,000 hope the following links help.Training nail technician. do i have to pay 4 insurance 2 practise?
    Yes if you have premises.
Whilst training your college will pay your insurance (if u go for work experience etc) after you have qualified u won't be able to treat clients without insurance...well of course, u WILL but for your own back up you will need to be insured....ie...a customer complains and tries to sue...if u work for a company then the company will proably cover the insurance and u wont need to pay
only if you are working for your self, do not with you are working for someone else.
It is not especially likely, but a nail technician can certainly get sued for injuring a client. I am not in your business, but imagine the worst possible thing that could happen to a client under your care.

So, either your employer buys liability insurance that covers you if you are sued as an individual (not merely if the employer is sued), or else you need to buy your own. It is probably not expensive, but if this is your chosen career, you want to be safe.
well technocliy no cuz i think ur boss pays for that
if you work for someone else you wouldn't have to pay insurance, but if it is your own buisness you would have to pay insurance.
I trained with Creative Nail Design ... had to pay for an insurance policy before ';graduating';.

How can train as a nail technician without years at college? im in east sussex?

The link below is the college i trained at, it is in Essex but people travel all around to go to it. It is a private college but is very good, the teachers are brilliant and they have small classes, no more than 10. They do there courses in quite short periods of time, you could probably be qualified in a few months, but there are no short cuts, you have to be assessed by VTCT and the qualifications are regarded highly in the profession

http://www.brentwoodacademy.co.uk/How can train as a nail technician without years at college? im in east sussex?
You cant learn without experience. You can take just a course on nails, you dint have to spend years at college for that, only if you intend to complete the full beauty package. Good luckHow can train as a nail technician without years at college? im in east sussex?
I dont think it takes years, i'm sure they do short courses.
hi you could train at home using the nail trainer hand, which is a realistic hand with moveable joints, from www.essentialnails.com.

They do a home learn course, where you can train in gel.acrylic, air-brush technique etc. you get practise cards , assessment cards, to send in your completed nails, telephone support etc.

A nd once you had completed the course you will always find another nail tech trainee, who will buy the hand off of you, as the problem with training to be a nail technician, is having to practise on people a lot. and there isn't always the availability of human hands to practise on. the name of the game is practise, practise practise.

You could even join a college course, and just purchase the hand to practise on , hands starts at about 拢90.00, check out their web-site. www,essentialnails.com

And for further support check out this website, it's for all things to do with nail technicians, training advise, products, equipment, they even have a type of eBay to sell things on, join that if you can it's free.

    www.thenailgeek.com or www.thesalongeek.com

good luck, you can take this training anywhere once you have it.

HIV(and how it affect me and a nail technician)?

Are you saying You have HIV, or you have a Client who has HIV, or You are worried about HIV in general, like you serve a Prision Population?

HIV is the virus that Causes AIDS, it is Transmissible by blood, and body fluids.

As a nail technician it is important to sterilize your reusable instruments as carfully as a hospital does.

Follow the instructions on your disinfectant bottles EXACTLY.

If it says to dilute 1:5, don't figure you can ';get away with'; 1:10

If it says for 10 minutes dont try twice as stong for half as long

    Just follow the dirrections.

Follow state and federal guidelines about safe practices, don't bend the rules to ';indulge'; a client.

For example, for pedicures, some people request their calluses be shaved away with a razor. This is illegal in many states, but many technicians still do it. You could open a tiny cut in the skin invisible to the eye, and put yourself of the client at risk.

Also clipping cuticles can be risky. A cuticle cream might be better.

    Only use disposable items once.

Clean your surfaces throuroughly before each client. A good solution is a 1:10 dilution of household bleach, Spray the area until glistening wet, let it stay wet for 10 minutes then wipe dry.

You may be able to buy a disinfectant that takes less time, but a simple spritz and whipe does not really disinfect an area, Most cleansers need to soak on the surface for at least 2 minutes to kill 99.9% of microbes.

This list is by no means complete. You should be able to contact your state health department for more full regulations on disinfection, and personal protection guidelines.

Good Luck.HIV(and how it affect me and a nail technician)?

To move to Australia and work there you need to apply for a work visa...and you need to have a skill which is need there. Then it takes 2 or 3 years for the visa to come through. Australia is not seeking immigrants and is very selective and strict about those it lets move there. You may go to the web site listed below for information on how to apply for the appropriate visa for Australia. Most countries, including the United States, mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, France all have similar restrictions on foreigners moving to their country to work.
A nail technician can put up a shingle, place an add in the local paper and work from home.

My friend does nails, she actually goes to the clients. It seems a bit too hard for me. I'd do it at home. You can also get a table in a hair dressers salon. It's self employment, but I hear it's worth while...
You need to apply for Work Visa and it's for skilled workers who have qualifications and/or experience in particular occupations required in Australia. Get an assessment of your qualifications, skills or experience gained overseas to see if you qualify. Jobs advertised are for either local or people holding vaild working visa therefore if you're thinking of moving to Australia, the very basic is to get a visa.

    Here's the Immigration site : http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-s鈥?/a>
You won't have any problems getting work - do you know how many nail technicians are in malls these days!

It will be easy to find a job anywhere in Australia. We have a shocking skills shortage. You just need to work out where it will be affordable for you to live as nail techs don't earn heaps and Sydney is exy. Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide are cheaper places to live.

What heat UV Lamps to nail technicians use to set Gel Nails?

Ive had my nails done more than once and they are normally fine last time i had them done though the uv lamp felt far hotter and was really uncomfotable is there a standard heat they use or not? What heat UV Lamps to nail technicians use to set Gel Nails?
It depends on the lamp they use. Each lamp uses a different bulb. Usually they're like 9-watts though.

You might have had a heat spike if they felt really hot. It happens when you apply the gel too thick onto the nail, or when your natural nails are really thin. Next time that happens, take your hand out and keep your nails close to the lamp for about 10 seconds. Then slowly put them back in, and you should be fine. What heat UV Lamps to nail technicians use to set Gel Nails?
UV lights are simple when we begin to understand how the lamp works in combination with the gel. UV light comes in a few different flavors. These flavors are known as wavelengths. Most gels cure well in wavelengths of 340 to 380 nanometers (nm). Within a given wavelength of UV light, there is a variance of UV light intensity. The intensity is dependant upon the wattage of the bulb (i.e., from 4 watts to 9 watts there will be an increase in intensity just as there’s a difference between a 25-watt bulb and a 75-watt bulb) and the number of bulbs in the lamp. The more bulbs a lamp has, the more UV intensity the lamp will emit. The fourth and final aspect of a lamp’s ability to cure a gel is how far the bulbs are from the fingernails. The farther the bulbs are away from the gel, the slower the gel will cure. If the bulbs are too far away, the gel may not even cure at all.

All these factors have a significant effect on the curing of UV gels because manufacturers use chemicals called photoinitiators in their gels. The photoinitiators react when exposed to various wavelengths of UV light. Some photoinitiators react upon exposure to 340 nm of light while others will not react. Some photoinitiators react when exposed to 365 nm of UV light. Some photoinitiators are more reactive than others at a certain wavelength.

When the photoinitiator is exposed to the proper UV light wavelength and intensity, it gives off a particle called a free radical. The free radical will initiate a polymerization reaction with the resins in the gel system. This polymerization reaction gives off heat (the burning sensation). This is called an exothermic reaction (“exo” means to give off, and “thermic” means heat). Some companies have said the burning sensation is friction between the molecules. This is not true. The exothermic reaction can be controlled by slowing down the reaction. The best method to slow down the reaction is to keep the fingernails farther from the lamp to begin the curing cycle; usually just in front of the lamp is sufficient.

As the curing cycle progresses, the fingernails are placed inside the lamp. I tell the nail technician to move the fingers progressively closer to the lamp every 15 seconds. Acrylics cure with a free radical reaction as well; the reaction is initiated when the peroxide in the powder is exposed to the reactive monomer in the liquid. The peroxide starts the polymerization reaction in the liquid to form the polymerized plastic. Both systems create plastics, but they use different materials and polymerization technology to do it.

When nail technicians use UV light to cure gel products, it is important to remember that the nail manufacturer knows what UV light intensity is required to cure the gel. So, if a gel manufacturer says that its gel requires two 4-watt bulbs to cure the gel, this will be sufficient. However, if a manufacturer has determined that its gel cures best in a 9-watt lamp that contains four bulbs, do not attempt to cure the gel in a 4-watt lamp. The gel will become a solid plastic, but the resulting plastic will not be as hard or as durable as it would be if cured in the 9-watt lamp. This information is important because the nail technician should know that all UV lamps are not equal and will not perform the same. It is also important to realize that not all UV bulbs are the same and it is advisable to buy the best bulb for your gel.
    i know that blu eyed

    devil kknows it LOL!

Why don't you try contacting LearnDirect? It is a government helpline designed to answer questions just like yours. The telephone number is: 0800 150 750. Alternatively you can send your question by email. The website address is below.
    To train in this field ,you do not actually need to study at college. i would think think the option of studying on line could benifit you also. . I am sure that you could possibly do all you theory at home with some kind of support on line. Then there is the practical side actually dealing with clients and different kinds of problems you may come across. Studying at home has its advantages with on line support from tutors , full inventory of the stages along your course. Most important ';keeping your freinds and family sweet so you have models to practice your techniques.';

The more experience you receive during the course the better outcome for yourself..

I hope i have helped with this query.

Requirements for nail technicians in a home salon?

If someone were to start a home-based salon that offers pedicures, manicures, facials, and makeup artistry, what would be the requirements? Do you know a site that states specific state requirements? Thanks!Requirements for nail technicians in a home salon?
first you will need to go to school and get your license....then you would need to have a business license, and an occupational license....your home will have to be set up with a separate entrance for clients to use rather than your own front door along with a sep bathroom for them to use....there is a whole lot you have to do in order to have this type of home based business...trust me i'm going through the same thing and i have all my licenses....Requirements for nail technicians in a home salon?
You have to go to school first and is somewhere between 10 to 13 thousand dollars. And then I guess you would go from there to get clients to come to your business I think it is a good idea though so go for it.

Are Nail Technicians In Pennsylvania permitted by law to nip nail cuticles with nippers?

I looking for state law, I know some nail technicians do use nippers! But is it prohidited by state law?Are Nail Technicians In Pennsylvania permitted by law to nip nail cuticles with nippers?
you should check with your state board on this issue... i know here in florida it is against the law to cut cuticles.... but some of the chop shops still do it.... alot of ppl think its cute to have this process done without knowing that once the cuticle grows back its gonna need to be continuely cut for it to appear neat... cutting cuticles should be against the law across the board but there are some states where its legal... so i would say check with your state board to make sure

whatever you do, DO NOT soak it in acetone.. which being a nail tech you should know.. but we have some people that did and it ate away the plastic/rubber of the hand trying to get the acrylic and glue off lol... i just used a 180 grit file or your nail drill if you use one to get it off the best i can without messing up the rubber. I don't think there is a way to get it all the way off though..
