I've been using IBD and I don't like it, it's rubbery no matter how long you cure it. Which brand is the best and the strongest?Gel nail technicians, which is the most durable, easy to work with gel brand?
I like Akzentz gels a lot. They are both durable, and quite workable as well. It's not all that expensive. But, like any good gel - it's not cheap either though not quite up in the LCN price range. Overall though, I find these gels to be a really good product line, they're affordable, and should you run into any problems with this line, help is only a phone call away. Click on 'Distributors' to find someone in your area that sells this brand. As far as the curing problem goes:
- Are you using a really good quality 36 watt UV lamp (four 9 watt bulbs)? The cheaper ones often have problems with curing gels.
- Are you changing your bulbs on a regular basis - at least once every six months?
- And if so, are you using top quality bulbs? The best UV bulbs are sold by Sylvania, and Philips. This can make a huge difference in how well a gel cures. Cheap bulbs will usually not work well. They don't last long at all usually.
- Do you regularly clean the bulbs to remove dust? This can have an effect on the curing as well.
- Are you applying the gel too thick? This will have an effect on curing as well. Thick gel tends to cause heat spikes, and also not cure properly. Always better to work in thinner layers of gel, than with thick layers.

Can i be a nail technician without going to college?
I dont go to college because i look after my little brother... and i dont have a job at the moment but im workin on it!
i bought a home acrylic kit and do my own and have been really pleased with them...I know how to do them and what products do what etc..
but im really short of money and can only affford to restock my kit once i get some money... i really wanna do a training course which is like 拢250 would this be relevant even if i dont have a college qualification cus i dont want to waste the little money i have.
i really want to get some experience in and maybe set up on my own or go mobile if i can

The local county vo-tech school should have a course for nail technician. You seem to be in the UK, and perhaps there is an affordable program for nails as opposed to those private $$ schools. I believe that one needs to be certified from an accredited program for nail tech to perform those services. Please make sure to have great ventilation as the nail chemicals can cause irritation and damage.

Choosing the right career; Nail Technician or Culinary Arts?
I'm graduating this year, and I have been thinking a lot about which career I want to go into, and I've narrowed it down to two, which is becoming a Nail Technician or going into the culinary arts. I simply just want a job that involves art, considering art is my passion and both of these jobs include that. I am always doing everyone's nails including mine plus buying tons of nail polish/tools and basically practicing all the time but then I am always cooking for everyone and everyone telling me I'm good at it, made tons of recipes and when I get bored I catch myself looking up new recipes to make without even knowing it, I really don't know which one to choose, if someone can narrow down the goods and bads for each one, I think that would help me a lot. Culinary is great, but the costs are outrageous ! I know cuz I went to a culinary school. There's tuition, books, uniform, knives set, and not to mention food ingredients you'll have to buy to practice at home. It's really fun to learn to cook, but it's costly, time consuming, and once you get out, there's no guarantee that how much you'll make. Some get lucky, some not. My cousin is a great chef, and he makes $25/hr at the Playboy Mansion West. But like I said, some get lucky.Choosing the right career; Nail Technician or Culinary Arts?

As a new nail technician what should I look for in a salon who would hire me?
I need some advice. I have two job offers from salons who are willing to work with me as their nail technician. I do not want to give out names so i will say salon A and salon B. I have looked at reviews for both places, salon A'; has all good reviews, and salon B'; has all bad reviews. I had an interview with the owner of the Salon B, and she didnt make me feel very confident in what i am doing, her salon seems very disorganized, but there is parking and she is going to pay me hourly to start off and provide me with some clientel, and then once i get more clients she would give me commission and supply me.
Salon A';, the first interview I had with the lady, she made me feel very comfortable, she is very nice and she is offering to teach me how to air brush and work with me along the way. And to continue to educate me in nails. The place is very nice, good prices, and seems to be very clean and orderly. The only down fall is that i would have to find parking on a side street because i cant feed the meters. And she is going to pay me commision i get 60% she also said once i get more clients she'll pay me hourly to. And i would have to suppply myself.
Salon B'; seems a little more promising financially speaking, but i just dont have a good feeling about the place, and a lot of people don't like the salon.
I had a second interview with the lady from Salon A'; today, and she basically gave me the job, I did a set of acrylics on my cousin and she liked my work. So I want to goto Salon A';, just because I have a good feeling about it, and I really like it there, and nail art seems to be more popular there, which is something I am really into. But I wanted to get a second opinon from someone who knows this business, and who has been in my shoes once before. What is your opinion?As a new nail technician what should I look for in a salon who would hire me?
That is definitely a very tough decision. Personally, after working some pretty terrible jobs for terrible companies, I will never work for a company I have a bad feeling about again. Salon B seems like an obviously bad choice.
I think parking is really not a big enough issue to worry about at Salon A. The only one worth worrying about is the money. I think it is totally feasible to make money just as well there. You just have to market yourself in order to be successful. You will learn so much as you try to build your clientele, and make them happy enough to keep coming back and refer their friends to you. Don't be afraid to ask them to tell their friends. Make business cards, have specials/sales to bring in new business, place ads, network on the web, get friends and family to come in, etc. Start building that clientele right away.As a new nail technician what should I look for in a salon who would hire me?

You need to do a college course to be qualified and you need to be qualified to be able to get insurance which you need. i'm doing a home course, the college is in cornwall and i am in stoke!!! buti have a lot of family and friends who let me practice on them. i don't rate the short courses as the most important thing is practice,practice, practice....

Yeah, Do a Course at a School, You can learn much better and more, than sitting at home, as in school, you actually get to work on clients, You won't get paid for doing nails(as it's a school not a salon.), But you may get tipped.
Definately do a course at the college. People will be paying you money to do their nails and will expect u to do a good job. I wouldn't recommend a teach yourself at home course.
Do a college course and make sure they are done right if they are done wrong they hurt so its best to learn with a tutor that knows what they are doing.
go to collge, as u can earn teh money as well. dont do it t home, its better at college wher the teachers can correct u on wahtever mistakes u make rite there on teh spot!
i did a private course and found it fab! yea it cost more than college (which worked out around 拢150) but gave me the chance to be in small group, rather than 30 to a class like at college. it allowed me to work at my own pace, and with much more personal help from teachers ect. althoug i learned privatly in a salon. this was even better as it meant i learned in the actual environment. gave me a real feel for the job!
dont worry if you dont know anything.they will teach you everything you need to know. the only thing i will say is dont get worked up! its much harder than it looks and the first times they come out terrible! this is normal! sounds silly but applying nail varnish to someone alses hands it very difficult! this is all normal. at first you will wonder what you were thinking and its really frustrating. they come out uneaven, krooked, badly filed, terribly shaped and generally nails that noone would go out with.. but taking it seriously and with lots ( i mean lots) of practice before you know it you will reconstructing fantastic nails that everyone will want!

Private/Mobile Nail Technician?
I live in Florida and my fiance is a licensed nail technician. She wants to make a few dollars on the side so she's thinking about going mobile or ';private practice.';
I searched the internet for answers and I turned up different conclusions.
I know it's illegal to do nails from home, unless you have a home business, complete with licenses and permits, and complying with health and sterilization standards. But, in the state of Florida, is it illegal to go to someone's house to do nails? Like a personal manicurist.
