Why do women keep on going back to nail salons where the technicians are uneducated?

Why do women go to salons where technicians hurt your nails. Why do women sacrifice the price verse the quality..

Why dont women who get there nails done want to ask questions about sanitation and get themselfs educated nails is part of your body. You can get AIDS if a salon isn't clean...

Why do women not realize that some salons are not safe?

Adhesion is not everything especially if they are using an illegal chemical (MMA) . which eventually deteriates your nail bed.

Why dont they complain to the state board every state has a website you just search for it online and file a complaint. Which no one doesWhy do women keep on going back to nail salons where the technicians are uneducated?
So they look good for a low price. Why do women keep on going back to nail salons where the technicians are uneducated?
it's normal to go every once in a while on special occasion, why do people drive when there's a chance they're gonna crash?
Because people dont care about the safety. They just think about the price...and usualy its cheap when you go to a tech school/college etc.

I personally want someone who knows that their doing....and sanitize their items.
For your information most women do ask questions about the tools that they use. I know I do.
I guess some women don't want to take the time to research something that could impact their health, or don't know how to do this research, or are just trusting in their luck and immune systems to protect them. This would be the same reason that people still use tanning beds, even though it increases their chances of getting skin cancer.

How to apply uv gel false nails properly with out going to a technician. i have all the right gear?

APPLYING THE GEL EXTENSION FORMS

1. Get out one gold gel form.

2. Cut the back of form with your straight scissors - at the other end fold at #7 on the form and pinch together at the very tip.

3. With your index finger and thumb, squeeze the form and gently slide it up under the real nail. When the form is in place make sure to squeeze the sides of the gold form together so it sticks to the finger.

APPLYING THE BASE GEL TO GET THE EXTENSION

4. Now it is time for the Base Gel. To apply Angel Love Nail Extension, hold the nail at a downward angle. Starting in the center of the nail just below the cuticle, place a small drop of Base Gel keeping the bottle at an angle.

5. Run a narrow line of Base Gel down center of the nail to the length of the form you desire. Go across at the number length you desire. Go across the end and up both sides of the nail making sure there is a nice even coat of gel covering the entire nail.

6. Turn nail upside down, check all 5 angles of the nail.

7. If your nail and extension pass inspection, quickly put in front of UV lamp. If there is no heat within 10 seconds with lamp in up position, then set nails in lamp.

8. Lower lamp half way down if no heat within 10 seconds. Then, close lamp down for another 1-2 minutes.

9. Take extension form off gently. If not fully cured under extension, 0put back in lamp with nail upside down. Cure for additional 1 minute. Take out.

FINISHING THE EXTENSION

10. Now, with your file, gently shape the top of your new nail, making sure it is smooth.

11. Remember when you have a good base, the final product will look much better.

12. Use your nailbrush to clean off around the cuticle and the nail. Use your dome duster to dust off hands and clean your area free from nail dust.

13. Now you are ready to apply color tips, white tips, glitter tips. Let your imagination go!

BUILDER FINISH

1. Put a small line of BUILDER FINISH down the center of the nail. Use your gel brush to brush a Flow Coat over the entire nail.

2. Holding the nail at a downward angle, put a line down the center of the nail so that layer #1 is even with the bulk of your product in layer #2.

3. Now, turn the nail upside down so you can see where the builder settles. Using the corner of the gel brush, pull the gel from the high spots into the low spots to equalize the gel. Make sure you have a nice arch from the cuticle to the end of the nail and then from side to side (this is called the C-Curve).

4. Lower lamp halfway down if no heat in 10 seconds. Close the lamp down to lowest height and cure for two minutes.

FINAL STEPS

1. Use your electric nail file and toothpick bit to clean under the nail.

2. Use the file in the filesaver to finish shaping the nail.

3. Dust off with nailbrush.

4. Apply cuticle oil.

5. Apply hydrating massage cream. How to apply uv gel false nails properly with out going to a technician. i have all the right gear?

Gel Nails vs Acrylic, HELP! Any recommendations for nail technicians near SW17?

I'm really confused!! I got my nails done for the very first time at Christmas. I asked for gel but I'm not sure that's what I got after reading up about them. It was applied as a powder %26amp; liquid but I did then have to put my hands under a uv light to finish it off, but all in all it only took about 1/2 hour. How can I find a qualified nail technician near SW17 to go to as I want to get them taken off, would they be able to tell the difference of what is on my nails? Any help would be greatly appreciated!Gel Nails vs Acrylic, HELP! Any recommendations for nail technicians near SW17?
If you asked for gel nails, and got charged for gel nails, then they got the best of you - and your money if the gel nails were more costly than acrylic nails. Its unfortunate but this happens a lot to unsuspecting women who want gel nails, but end up just getting acrylic nails with a UV gel topcoat. It's not your fault though. You now know what to look for, I assume. I'll just give you a a few pointers about gel nails, and what to look for when getting them.

First of all, about the appearance of nail gels. As you probably could already figure out yourself, UV gel has the look and consistency of a hair gel. It comes in a wide variety of colors, and there are various viscosities of gel which are used for different areas of the nail - but that last part isn't something that you need to be concerned about. Here is what top quality UV gels look like:

http://www.cnd.com/Home/homelink-consume鈥?/a>

UV gels are never a powder. If the tech uses ANY liquid and powder, you are getting acrylic nails, not gel nails.

The rule of thumb for gel nail application is that they are easy to do, but difficult to master. You would be best off by going to a tech who has a good deal of experience doing UV gel nails, and is highly skilled at it.

BTW, a highly skilled tech will usually take about an hour and a half to apply a full set of UV gel nails. A tech who takes a half hour to do either UV gels, or acrylics is skipping steps and taking many shortcuts to do it in such a short time. Avoid this type of tech, and salons who have these tachs working for them. They are notorious for ruining your nails, and usually do a poor quality job on your nails.

The gels are applied in several thin layers which need to be individually cured under a UV lamp for about two minutes each layer. The final layer is usually either a UV gel topcoat, or a UV gel sealer which is also cured for about two minutes. Either one will provide a high gloss finish on your nails which will last for a week or two at least. Don't file or buff UV gel nails because that will ruin the shine of the gels, and if you file the tips, it will destroy the 'seal' that the gel has formed between your natural nails, and the gel itself. This could lead to seperation of the gel from the nailplate, and that is not what you want!

UV gels are non-porous. What this means in terms of removal is that they cannot be soaked off the same way that acrylics can be because the acetone will not penetrate the surface of the gel. UV gels nails must be filed off by a tech who is highly skilled, and has removed UV gels quite a bit already. Going to an unskilled tech could easily turn out to be a disaster for your nails because it it difficult to tell exactly where the gel ends, and your natural nails begin. Only a very experienced tech can do this without ruining your nails. Don't ever let a tech pry them off, tear them off, or force them off in any way. This will cause you not only a lot of unnecessary pain or discomfort, but it WILL also damage your nails- sometimes severely.

I'm sorry, but I do not know where SW17 is. But, I can give you a link to a site which has a salon locator. This page is on Creative Nail Design's website. CND is a leading provider of professional acrylic and gel products, and has been in business longer than any other nail company in existence. ALL of the techs/salons on this page have been company trained, and company certified PRIOR to their being placed on this list so you can rest assured that you will be in the hands of a well qualified technician. BTW, I have nothing to gain, nor will I profit in any way by posting this link. I am doing so strictly for informational purposes only. I am not affiliated with the company in any way other than the fact that I have been trained, and certified by them as a Master Technician:

Gel nails look more natural, but cost a little more. i get acrylic and go back every 2-3 wks for a fill-in. try 2 designs on each hand and the other three half polish.u can go to any nail salon to get gel taken off.
What you go was gel wherever you got them done then just go back there to get them taken off the take it off for only around a tenner I don't know nail salons around sw17 but there are amazing ones all around golders green but that is nw xxx acrylics is when they put fake nails on and then the gel on top that is really bad for nails I got it done and then I took it off myself its painful and completely ruins your nails it takes off layers of your nails and make the nails look crapppppppp so do gel same effect but just doesnt make ur nails long x hope this helps if you really need nail salons round sw17 search it on yahooo x

  • Nail technicians Help me please?

Ok so ive decided that i want to be a nail technician, and what to find a course suitable for me, i have a two year old son so classroom courses arent really an option.

I have looked at a website called www.essentialnails.com its a home study course and they offer different courses, its roughly around 拢500 to do a gel nail and maintance course, then 拢200 for the nail art course and 拢300 to do the airbrush course aswell, it will be about 拢1000 in total to do. (plus i get a free spray tan kit worth 拢120) Do you think this is quite dear?

I can do gel nails perfect i have been doing them since i was 15 (im 20 now) but i actually want a certificate so i can work in a salon, or start a mobile business.

Is there any other sites that is a bit cheaper?Nail technicians Help me please?
Your not going to be able to do courses online. They won't be recongized by the state board(Which you need to go through to get your license.). It's a hands on experiance, and you need certain amount of class time hours, and requirements. Besides, You have to take the entire Nail Tech course for so many hours(Depends on your state.), Not just one different course.Nail technicians Help me please?

    Nail technicians ??

i have been having pink%26amp;white or acrylic tips for about a year, i used to have them b4 but the past year i have them constantly, off and new set put str8 on every 2 weeks. i just hate having short nails and no patience to grow my own.. anyway i was just wondering now if i took them off how damaged are my real nails?? i tried asking the salon i get them done but they dont really speak englishNail technicians ??
Unfortunately, acrylic nail tips, although very attractive, do no favours for your real nails underneath.

I would guess that your real nails, after having acrylics applied on top of them for about a year, will be considerably worse for wear. However, all is not lost! You just need the patience to nurse them back to health and to cope with them being short for 6 months or so.

If you're going to go back to your real nails, you will need to have them manicured regularly and give them lots of TLC yourself too!

    Hope this helps.

    Employment for nail technicians!?

I am seriously considering to take a course in nail technology coz it seems to be an interesting job option. I wud like to hear from students who have completed this course or are currently pursuing it (or having friends that are)about the pros and cons and the job oppurtunities. Also any other suggestions for a career in the beauty field is highly appreciated.I just wanna be real sure before i make the plunge! Thanks a lot!

p.s. i live at madison wi. Jus wanna add that incase it ll help with personal info from this areaEmployment for nail technicians!?
I became a nail technician many years ago and my advice is DON'T DO IT! I live in California and the competition here is horrendous. In the first year, I spent more money on supplies than I could actually make. Maybe your area is different , but in California there a too many foreign ran ';chop shops'; that does nails REALLY cheap. The average person can't compete with them. I got out of the business and went to nursing school instead. Explore your options! They are not paid by the hour usually. Usually, you pay rent to the salon for your space.Around here, that is about 250.00 per month. Then it is up to you to get your clients. Out of the money you make from your clients, you have to pay for all of your own supplies and somtimes your own phone line and advertising. It is very hard to find ongoing clients as an inexperienced nail tech. It can work differently by working directly for the salon, they pay for certain things, but I'm not sure it would work out much better as you would have to pay them a percentage of you income. I have never found a salon that pays by the hour. Hope that helps!Employment for nail technicians!?
It is very, very hard to make a living as a nail tech. Why? Because of the time it takes to do a good job, and the high product cost cuts into your hourly production. For instance, if you charge $15 for acrylic refills, $5 of that is product cost, and you are still giving a hefty cut of the remaining $10 to the shop. You have just made $5 for 30-45 mins work. Plus, you deal with feet all day if you are not doing hands. I would go to cosmetology or massage school if you want to work in a spa or in the beauty business.
    Hi,

I started my own business while in Massage school through BeautiControl, it's an excellent company. Now both my business I created and my massage career work great together. The products are absolutely wonderful and the parties are fun and relaxing. I love all the products, and they have a very large variety to choose from. Please check out their site, it says $179 to join, but this month there is a $179 rebate offer, so it's like joining for free. Amazing offer if your serious about building a business for yourself. When the site prompts you to find a consultant my number is 1029211, or email me at turbin_barbie@yahoo.com for more information.

    Good Luck!

Any nail technicians out there advice pls or beauty therpists?

Im wanting to get some acrylic nails done but Im a serious nail biter with very little nail bed, this is the only way I can grow my nails but Im too embaressed to go to a salon and get them done as Im worried they may turn me away as my nails are badly bitten. I have had acrylic before but my nails are worse since I had them applied last time. what should I do? there is some nail bed and I do wear the false nails you apply at home but they are crap. would there be any reason a nail tech wouldnt work on my nails? Iis it best to go to a salon or get a mobile nail tech to come to me? xAny nail technicians out there advice pls or beauty therpists?
If you can apply false nails then there is enough of a nail bed for your salon to do it. However, I cannot guarantee that you wont have someone that will give you a tiny telling off about biting your nails. The only reason why they might not work on your nails is if your biting had caused any infection to the nail which would only be made worse by sticking an acrylic nail over it. Be brave and go to the salon, it will be a lot cheaper than getting someone to come to you. Good luck :-)Any nail technicians out there advice pls or beauty therpists?
A good nail tech won't turn away a nail biter, they could be one of their best clients, they are the ones that need more maintenance than anyone with half decent nails, so don't be silly and go and get them done. There is obviously enough nail bed if you can apply false nails, and they can give you a slight application to make your nail bed longer, you apply a slight amount of acrylic so that they can get the nail form under and then continue in a normal way...

Go get them done just think what they will look like afterwards.
Been there... I felt as you do and sucked it up, went and had ';silk nails'; which look more realistic, and your nails will grow. Then have the salon remove the nails (they'll have to be soaked in a solution) And...Voilla! You have your own home grown nails!!! :) P.S. A tech did badger me once about biting my nails and I told her if I had the answer I wouldn't need to come to her, and I never went back to her again. Went to her competitor.
I have arcrylic nails on and have bitten my nails for years, they won't tell you off,at the end of the day you are paying their wages so they will welcome you.You have to get infills every 3-4 weeks and it can be quite expensive but they do look nice.Go on treat yourself.
good question ... may tell u later
Honey, I was a nail technician back in the day. For money a nail technician will do Fido's paws! In my reasoning I would assume that is why yu step foot in my shop in the first place. If you are so self conscious of it. Start taking care of your nails yourself for a little bit, maybe they just need to breathe anyway from you always smothering them under all of that embalming fluid and glue. There is all types of information, on how to pamper your fingernails. First of all stop biting your nails when you think about biting them just think you will be further and further away from your nail shop visit for sculptured nails. You dont have to bite your nails! Because I know I stopped. Find some other past time. You have too much time on your hands! You get it now?!! Time on your own hands. Put up a picture, reflect on that picture and imagine your hands looking like that, who knows you may be one of those people who can grow some of the longest beautiful nails and never need to get that fake stuff anyway. I'm not knocking the nails I'm just more into natural stuff. You Can Do It. Stop Biting. If you decide to go to the nail shop and that person has a problem with your little nail bed, just ask them if they have a problem? No professional should make anyone feel bad. At least this is what I was taught in cosmetology school. (Beauty School) whatever you want to refer to it as.
you may want to consider going to visit a dermatologist first and see what they have to say.

    Tipping Nail Technicians?

Okay, so I go get my nails done about every week, and generally go to different places. I'm a waitress, so I'm used to tipping others well. However, when I tip my nail people they never seem grateful and generally seen disappointed. Am I not tipping enough?

Example: Yesterday, I got a normal manicure, $15 and tipped $5.

Generally I get french tips, and it costs $30, so I tip $8.

Is this not enough?Tipping Nail Technicians?
Okay by most standards you are overtipping.

I tip about the same as you and sometimes (it depends on the salon) the people seem so ungrateful.

So i just dont go to them anymore

Its so frustrating when they dont even acknowledge that im putting a tip on their table. I feel like they will talk about me the second i walk out of the salon.

That isnt the experience i want when im paying 30 dollars or sometimes more to get my nails done.

Best bet is to try a few salons like youre doing and keep going back to the good ones (that means quality and customer service )Tipping Nail Technicians?
i honestly think u r overtipping. i've seen people tip way less. if they seem like they are not happy, too bad for them. they should be lucky they are getting a tip, i'm more than sure that there are some people that don't even tip.

My fingernails r broken, split, n cracked. Should I do what a nail technician says?

I saw a nail technician %26amp; got a manicure last week to see if they knew what I should do about my stupid-looking fingernails. The technician says I should let her apply a layer of acrylic coating to each fingernail. She says it'll look just like healthy, natural nails and that she could keep them looking good (without being the least bit shiny) if I came back every few weeks.

OMG! What! Suspicion makes me worry about being scammed.

I just want to have ordinary, average looking hands.

Should I trust what she says?

Does this seem ok to anyone who knows about this stuff?

Will it look ';just like natural'; the way she says?

What's the good n bad in this whole thing?

I'm otherwise good in my health. So it's not a diet thing. My doc says I've just got the hands I've got.My fingernails r broken, split, n cracked. Should I do what a nail technician says?
She could be just wanting you as a client, but It will most likely help them. Acrylic is just a clear coating on the top of the nail. It is used to make the nail stronger. When People talk about acrylic nails. The ones you think are ';fake looking'; they also get white tips attached underneath the acrylic.

If you are willing to pay the price then It will probably make them feel better.

My best advice is to go in and try it once. If you like it then continue with it if not, go to another manicurist and ask her to take it off. You have to soak your fingers in acetone for the acrylic to come off without further hurting your nail. but a manicurist should be able to do this very easily.

Good LuckMy fingernails r broken, split, n cracked. Should I do what a nail technician says?

Any Nail Technicians in Nova Scotia and Ontario???

My wife is doing Nail in the USA now,but we're going to immigrate to Canada soon and would like to know is it easy to find a Nail Technician jobs in or around Halifax,NS,Ottawa,On OR around Toronto areas?Which city do you think is best and easy to make money as a Nail Technician,in terms of Ottawa is colder than Halifax and around Toronto areas, does it effect the Nail Businesses at all in terms of the cold weather???Thanks for your help.Any Nail Technicians in Nova Scotia and Ontario???
Should improve business since the cold will make the nails brittle. Any of those cities have customers and beauty salons offer the service, so if your wife doesn't want to establish her own business, then she can probably get on with a salon.

I'm not sure which of the three cities is colder. Toronto is a humid cold since the lake is open all year (and it is huge). Ottawa meanwhile gets a fair bit of wind and Halifax has the open ocean to provide humidity resulting in significant snowfalls at times. Welcome to Canada. If you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes.

  • Nail technicians out there! Problem with acrylic.?

Hi. I have a technician that does my nails at home. I like her designs very much and the first set of nails was wonderful. Unfortunately, just after taking a shower before bed time, I noticed that the acrylic was lifting at the nail bed. She did do some buffing and applied primer. This never happend to me before when serviced by other technicians. I'm wondering if she's doing something wrong or if the acrylic she's using is poor quality. I don't no what brand it is.

I'd like recommendations on best brands of acrylic and any other suggestions. I've thought of buying my own product and ask her to use it instead. Thanks!Nail technicians out there! Problem with acrylic.?
There can be a few reasons why they are lifting...product too thick, too close to the cuticle, or she my have not prepped the nail bed properly for the application of the acrylic. More than likely it's not the product it's the nail tech. I've been using the same brand for 10 yrs Creative nail...and no problems You might want to find a new nail techNail technicians out there! Problem with acrylic.?
creative nail design is the best, imho. lifting can happen for several reasons. nothing to stress about. just make sure you take the nails off completely after about 6 weeks and make sure you have no fungus.
It has to do with her technique and not properly prepping the nail.

  • Becoming a nail technician...?

i have been struggling with the decision of what i want to do with the rest of my life for a while now and i have finally decided that i want to study to become a nail technician. the only problem is that i cannot afford to go back to full time college although i could probably manage part time and of course home learning is always an option. i am just really confused about what qualifications i need to be looking at as there are so many. any advice would be greatly appreciated to point me in the right direction. Thank you!Becoming a nail technician...?
I looked into doing this last year, having been told by my nail tech i'd be really good at it, being patient and creative. She told me all you need to do is one course by Creative, I think its about 拢500 for a weeks course, and then you're all set! there are other courses you can do to add on to it but once this initial outlay is done you can start immediately. I have the phone number for the Creative Academy at home, but I'm not there at the moment. Mail me if you want me to send it to you when I get home!

The only reason I haven't done it is I have a four year old daughter and am pregnant again and can't afford to be away from home for a week at the moment!

Nail Technicians/manicurists please answer this/Beauty Salon owners?

IS a Beauty Salon Owner, obligated by law to give keys (of the salon) to booth renters? MY wife started at a new salon and the owner there does not give keys to her booth renters. Is this legal? I think it .Nail Technicians/manicurists please answer this/Beauty Salon owners?
I think it's legal for her not to give the booth renters keys. On a show about real people who work in a real barbershop on MTV, the renters were not given keys and would complain about how their boss was always late.

    Nail technicians for dead people?

Is there a such thing as a nail techician for dead people? I know they have people that do dead people hair, so I was asking about nails! If so can you give me a little more information on it, and how much do they make a year on average?Nail technicians for dead people?
i don't think you'd make much on just nails alone. usually the make up person does everything including nails and hair. it's not like the dead person needs a manicure or anything. if you want to do something along those lines, i'd suggest you train for make up %26amp; hair too just to make yourself more marketable.

    Nail technicians- how is buisness?

I am hoping to do a course in january and start up my own nail buisness. Any advice?Nail technicians- how is buisness?
Ordinary nail bars and salons in towns aren't doing that well i have'nt seen many people in my local ones and the cost of starting up a shop and buying a premises will be phenomenally exensive if you don't have much money

i have my own business but i work freelance/mobile and business is 'booming' i go to people in the comfort of their own homes and can fit round their busy lifestyles daytimes are mostly filled up with retired people and evenings/weekends with workers and young people being mobile i can charge a bit less than salons and people really appreciate itNail technicians- how is buisness?
Have three within view of where I work - none of them seem that busy.

Having said that, the one I use for manicures is incredibly busy but she does loads of treatments too - and is based within a very busy hairdressers.
everytime i go to the nail salon its very busy

NAIL TECHNICIANS-what is the easiest way to.....?

do white acrylic smile lines?NAIL TECHNICIANS-what is the easiest way to.....?
It depends on alot of things. Are you doing a pink and white fill or is it a new nail on a nail tip or a form? What size and shape brush are you using?

After prepping my client for a pink and white fill, I place one ball (appropriately sized for that particular nail) in the middle of the nail at the end of the tip. Then I pat it down with the 'belly' of my brush (not the tip) and push some up on one side and push some up on the other side. Once it is all even I place my brush into the liquid again and create my smile line by placing the very tip of my brush at the smile line and pushing it down towards the tip to form the smile. Its kind of hard to explain in this situation, but I will tell you it takes ALOT of practice!NAIL TECHNICIANS-what is the easiest way to.....?
pay a nail technician to do it. It's a treat for you, it'll be done correctly, and it let's another person have work. You wouldn't ask a doctor how to do heart surgery with the intent of doing it yourself and it's kind of rude to ask a nail technician who had to pay to go to school to learn and be satisfied to give up the information that puts their job in demand.
For me the easiest way to do a perfect smile is to put the pink pearl first in the midle of the plate and now you have the smile. after that you fill the whitthe part and fill the cuticule area with acrilic. ( sorry by my grammar i don't speack english very well)

I had my nails done and the technician cut my cuticle with the sander. It hurts and is turning pus green.?

What can I do about this? She cut me a few times on more than one finger. It hurts. I continue to use witch hazel and neosporin. Should I be concerned about the cut that is swollen and turning green? It's not that bad... but hurts really bad.I had my nails done and the technician cut my cuticle with the sander. It hurts and is turning pus green.?
This happens to me when I chew off hangnails. It's not that serious its swollen and pus green because you have pus in it. I would squeeze the finger right below where it starts to get green and press upwards, until all the green liquid comes out, and blood starts coming instead. Then place the finger in the hottest water you can bear for as long as you can handle it. Keep putting the neosporin on, but find an antibiotic ointment if you have one. Do this everyday. Go to the doctor only if it gets worse, most nail salons HAVE to clean and sterilize their equipment and after the American Idol lady went on a rampage about it, they've been cracking down on their cleaning. My dad's a doctor and he made me do this all the time when I was younger. It'll get better in a while. But if in a week it hasn't gotten better, go to the doctor.I had my nails done and the technician cut my cuticle with the sander. It hurts and is turning pus green.?
    Please go see a dermatologist.

There are a number of bacterial infections that can be acquired at nail salons. It's nothing to play with. Fungal infections for example, can take up to 9 months to go away and only with an oral antibiotic. THis doesn't seem to be your case but you should seek medical attention. Don't get too alarmed but you should check on this and. Without medical attention it could get worst. You don't want to risk it. Please do see a derm and don't go back to that place.
if it's turning green, i would go to the doctor. i don't want to scare you, but very often the tools used in nail salons aren't completely sterilized between uses and you could get a nasty disease from someone else.
Go to the doctor and probably A.S.A.P. You can get very nasty infections from those nail shops, so go and talk to a doctor, theres no reason not to. Anything that turns ';puss green'; should be examined. I hope all turns out fine.
Keep an eye on it. Don't go back..I got my nails done once and the girl cut me and my finger started bleeding and she said it was my own fault haha. It didn't get infected or anything though but yeaah..go somewhere better next time.
Definitely wash your hands WELL with soap %26amp; water, rinse the wound WELL with Hydrogen Peroxide, and keep Neosporin on it (constantly ... bandage it at night). If it doesn't look better by Monday, see your Dr.
You got an infection and you need to go to a doctor now! I'm glad that I do my own nails and I don't want to have the same problem has you!
    go to the emergency room.

    and sue the company.

    thats not good.

  • How to become a nail technicians in us?

Go to a beauty college, take the state test, pass and Viola you're there

Why are there never black nail technicians they are always asian why is this?

I AM A BLACK ESTHETICIAN AND NAIL TECH

I AM LICENSED IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA

THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION IS THIS AND I AM SPEAKING FROM WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN FLORIDA

ASIANS HAVE TAKEN OVER NAIL SALONS BECAUSE THEY LICENSE THEMSELVES TO DO IT AND THEY USE CHEAP PRODUCTS LIKE MMA THAT WILL KILL YOU OR CAUSE FUNGUS

IN FLORIDA WE ARE NOW REQUIRED TO LAMINATE OUR LICENSES WITH A PASSPORT PHOTO ATTACHED BECAUSE OF ASIAN WOMAN GETTING A LICENSE THEN WHEN ONE GETS THE LICENSE THE OTHERS USE IT TOO AND WORK

A LOT OF THESE LADIES ARE WORKING OF DEBT TO COME HERE AND SOME OF THOSE SALONS ARE REALLY SWEAT SHOPS PLUS THEY DEMEAN OUR PROFESSION BY CHARGING DISCOUNT PRICES WHEN WE WHO GO TO SCHOOL AND GET LEGALLY LICENSED CHARGE FOR OUR SKILL AND USE OF QUALITY PRODUCTS

ITS NOT ABOUT HOW MANY SERVICES YOU DO ITS ABOUT THE QUALITY OF YOUR SERVICES AND YOUR USE OF STATE REGULATED SAFETY PROCEDURES AND SANITATION TO BUILD A CLIENTELE NOT JUST CRANK OUT CUSTOMERS WITH SHITTY NAILS USING BELOW STANDARD PRODUCT

IN FLORIDA THERE IS A BAN ON MMA THE DANGEROUS SUBSTANCE THAT ONLY CAN BE FOUND IN ASIAN SALONS HERE IT IS USED AS A NAIL LIQUID AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS

I AM NOT ANTI-ASIAN THERE ARE A LOT OF BEAUTIFUL HIGH END NAIL SALONS HERE OWNED BY ASIANS BUT THE ONES YOU FIND IN SHOPPING MALLS AND IN URBAN AREAS ARE USUALLY ENGAGING IN THIS ACTIVITY PLUS THE STEREO TYPE OF THE ASIAN ';NAIL GIRL'; KEEPS A LOT OF FUTURE ESTY'S AND NAIL TECH S FROM GETTING INTO IT BECAUSE IN A WAY THE LOWER QUALITY SALONS HAVE TAINTED THE PROFESSION AND MAKES IT SEEM LIKE THEIR THING

I AM SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE I AM A PROFESSIONAL WHO TAKES CARE OF MY CLIENTS AND I PRIDE MYSELF WITH BEING A BLACK ESTHETICIAN AND NAIL TECH WE ARE VERY NUMEROUS BUT WE USUALLY WORK IN AREAS OTHER ETHNICITIES DONT VENTURE OR KNOW ABOUT OR WE ARE MOBILEWhy are there never black nail technicians they are always asian why is this?
    There are black nail technicians...Duh!

Vietnamese people aren't the only race that can do nails. True enough, in my town the Vietnamese nail shops outnumber black/white owned nail shops about 5:1, but there are black people that do nails, at least in my town there are.Why are there never black nail technicians they are always asian why is this?
Because the nail technicians get paid by how much work they do. The more work each technician does, the more money the company makes. If there were black technicians.... nevermind, don't want to be called racist.

Plain and simple, Asians work hard.
It may because many Asian nail technicians have limited job opportunities due to language barriers. They come into the profession thru a friend or relative network. Blacks have a wider range of options.
There are very few Black nail technicians just as there are very few White nail technicians.
maybe if you get off the computer and travel about

    I see black nail technicians...
Ummm Im guessing the same reason why there are no white or hispanic nail technicians......I think it's a cultural thing....
Vietnamese are making mucho money off that shiznet....
I have yet to be serviced by a WHITE one too! I guess it's just their/asians thing!

Contra indications information for nail technicians?

Can anyone give me any advice on whether or not any of theses contra indications prevent or restrict treatment taking place.

    Circulatory disorders (High/Low blood pressure)

    Diabetes

    Epilepsy

    Pace maker

    Loss of sensitivity

    Undiagnosed lumps/bumps/swelling

    Terminal illness

Any help please? I will be very grateful!

=)Contra indications information for nail technicians?
not really understanding your question, but people with diabetes should not have their nails done. the rate of infection is greater among those with diabetes, any cut or chip can cause infection. fingers or toes need to be done only by the person themselves or a podiatrist.

I want to open up a nail salon, but wanted nail technicians from china, how would i go about this?

me make nail nice, you want me make nice nail for you. me fill nail too.

you want me do pedicure, i do for you.I want to open up a nail salon, but wanted nail technicians from china, how would i go about this?
Smuggle them across the boarder.,I want to open up a nail salon, but wanted nail technicians from china, how would i go about this?
Contact the Chinese Embassy in London; may be they can help you with some references and addresses.
Where does being nationalistic stop and racism start? As the UK is in a recession with people losing their jobs left right and centre i do not think opening a nail salon and trying to staff it with technicians from China is exactly a good idea. I rather think many people would boy-cot it on principle. If the bleeding hearts and pc brigade think that is racist then its says more about them than about me!
That's incredibly racist and inaccurate there not all Chinese the nail salon I go to the people are mostly Asian but not Chinese. I would probably suggest contacting your local beauty schools that have nail programs and tell them you want new faces to work in your salon, you could pay them less than a veteran manicurist because they are fresh out of school and pay them more the longer they work for you, its expected that when you start out you make less and work your way up with experience.
    go to college in china
    why?

How much do you tip for hair dressers, nail technicians and massage therapists? The same 15-20% as restaurants

Hair dressers and masseuses receive 15 - 20%. A nail technician should receive a minimum of $5.How much do you tip for hair dressers, nail technicians and massage therapists? The same 15-20% as restaurants
i used to bring my masseuse a bottle of wine every 4 visits. ( i used to go once a week) and still tip her 5 bucks per visit. my stylist depends on how much i like my hair. my nail tech gives me a cheaper rate 15$ for a fill on my nails since i have been going there steady and i always get little extras for free. i tip her about 6 bucks per visit and i am still saving money. How much do you tip for hair dressers, nail technicians and massage therapists? The same 15-20% as restaurants
No, 2-3 dollars for nails 4-6 for hair. you are not obligated to tip for these services only if you really like the end product.
It to me depends on how i feel the dyd. For hair i usually go, 2-5 same as nails and pedi's.

If they do a gret job which i do have a great place for pedi's i give them a 5 $ tip for it because they do such a great job!
Yes, 15% if the price is high, and I do 20% if the price was reasonable.
I tip my nail tech $5 for a fill and $10 for a full set. Depending on the service performed I give my hairdresser $10 to $20 and don't forget to tip the shampoo girl $5 as well.
Usually nothing. Those you name should charge honest prices, and not expect to be supplemented. Hurrah for Japan where they are paid fairly and refuse to take tips.
In my area, it is expected to tip at least 10% for these services, more if you really like the service received or if they give you little extras (such as nail art or extending your massage time by a few minutes.)
My stylist does a fantastic job and her rates are cheap--$17/cut (w/wash %26amp; style). So I tip her $4, which is just over 20%. She's a sweet person and does my daughter's hair as well. She doesn't gossip with the other idle stylists in the salon while cutting hair. She concentrates on her customer.

I usually tip the same with my pedi's. :)

It just depends on the service you got, but if you constantly see the same person or salon, I'd tip a customary 15-20%.

My husband tips his barber only 10%. Of course, alot less work is done. No wash or style!!
    $4 to $6 on a $12 haircut? I think 15% to 20% is the norm here.
My nail technician works so hard and I always give her a 25% tip. She doesn't charge as much as most do and she does such a great job.

Asian nail technicians talking (in their native language) throughout the salon procedure?

It irritates me (to no end) when they start talking to each other in their language. So, I've started asking them to speak English while they are working on my hands/feet! Does anyone else in Yahoo-land want to weigh in on this issue? What do YOU do?Asian nail technicians talking (in their native language) throughout the salon procedure?
Talking in a foreign language around others that cannot understand it (especially around customers) is as rude as whispering secrets in public. If you don't want others to hear what you are saying, then don't say it until you can do so in private.Asian nail technicians talking (in their native language) throughout the salon procedure?
It's not rude to communicate with others who speak the same language that you do. It's rude to claim that no one should be allowed to speak a language that you personally don't understand. Who's being the intolerant one here? Try to get out of your box once in a while, will you?

From a majority of the response posts (including the asker's), I understand that the consensus is that chatting away in a foreign language in front of those that don't speak it, is considered rude.

I can also understand that most Asian languages are not particularly pleasant for the Western ear to hear.

None-the-less, although it IS considered rude in most Western societies, this behaviour is NOT considered rude in Asian ones. I believe it is not their intention to be rude; however they are simply not aware of the fact that may irritate a customer.

In a similar situation, I've just mentioned that as the time I spend doing my nails is one of the few moments I get to myself, I would appreciate a bit of quiet! It has worked for me.

Having said this, you cannot silence the whole salon so if it continues to irritates you (to no end), I suggest you take your business to one of those nice English-speaking nail salons that charge you three times the price of what the Asian ones do... you'll be able to listen to the English chatter AND get landed with a nice bill at the end of it.
I think they should be allowed to speak in their native language. If you were them in their country, wouldn't you like to speak to someone you know in English sometimes?

I think that in general, people are insecure about what other people are saying, and so when people speak in other languages, they automatically go on the defensive because they don't know if it's about them or not.
I agree with Kitana. They are talking in that language because it is easier for them to speak their native language to each other. If you and someone you know both spoke two languages, one that you were each very comfortable in and one that you were both not very comfortable in, which would you choose? I lived in Mexico for about two months a few years ago, and believe me, listening to and speaking Spanish all the time made me tired! Speaking English (my native language) felt like a break.

I also agree with Kitana that they are probably not talking about you. Maybe you're worried because of that Seinfeld episode...
You're being paranoid. Why should they work in absolute silence just because you're uncomfortable with it? If you don't like it, go to another shop. Of simply suck it up and realize that they probably have better things to talk about than you, so it's really none of your business.
hi, i am a caucasian manicurist in california. and i have to say that i have lost of clients that also find it irritating and because of it they are willing to spend more money for a quality service and the ability to talk to me because I SPEAK ENGLISH. what is even more troubling is that the beauty schools in the los angeles area are now teaching manicuring classes ONLY in vietnamese. no classes in english. now i am not saying that there are no good manicurist that are vietnamese, but i understand your complaint.
I totally agree with you. I think it's disrespectful.

I think they're talking about customers feet.

But on the other hand, I have been told that they only do it because it's more comfortable and they can pronounce words better in their native language.
I do not tip anyone rude enough to do that to me - then I explain why - - I go to the same place every time and now all the nail techs know not to be so rude and they will recieve a tip from me.

    Money is the universal language!
I hate that cause they will point to you and laugh.

Where I live all the nail people are Vietnamese

and my friend and I went there, my friend is part

Vietnamese and her dad doesn't speak English

so she was brought up to speak the Vietnamese

language. After the people like were talking for a while

she started talking to them in it and they were blushing.

When we left she was like they said you are kind of fat

and they said that I look like a mutt, and what a disgrace

    to Vietnam people.
I understand your problem! Everytime I go to get my nails and feet done they start speaking in their language and I notice that sometimes they look at me when they are talking like they are talking about me! It makes me feel very uncomfy so I quit going to the salon and started going to another with english speaking workers! everytime I would go I would feel so uncomfy the whole time that I could not even relax and enjoy my pedicure or manicure! I think that it is very unprofessional to do that! Plus they are so rude because a few times I KNOW for a fact that they were making fun of this woman that was there! They were talking in their language but looking at her and making faces behind her back the whole time and mkaing gestures with their hands about her rear end! it si horrible and I hate going in there!
I just read a book and let them do what they do best. I am sure that if you are being polite to them, they aren't talking about you. If they are talking about you, so what. Bring your Ipod, and a good book...you won't care as much :-)
I agree with you. I would speak to the salon manager and explain how rude and offensive it is to you. Ask if the manager can do something to prevent it or simply state you will find another salon.
    Let them talk.

I get very ';fat white american'; when I have a pedicure... bring in champagne and chocolates... chit chat with my friends...

I'm interested in learning how to become a manicurist/nail technician. Someone told me their salary per wk is %26gt;$1000 b/c they dont pay taxes. and is it true that they get insurance from medicaid even if they make that much $$ by just having a child in the household??Do nail technicians really make over $1000/wk b/c they get paid under the table(not including tips)??
Doesnt sound true. If that were the case, i think alot more people would want to become a nail technician, dontcha think so?

Should I Go Back To The Nail Shop (The Technician Messed The Up)?

Yesterday I got my nails done in french tips.

It took 2 hours because the first nail tech who did my nails kept messing up. The second nail technician fixed the problem, but told me to come back the next day (today) if something went wrong with them.

Now I noticed that it feels like one of my nails is slipping off and another nail is cracking (the glue is coming off).

Should I call and go in today? Do you think they'll try and charge me to fix it? What should I say if they do?Should I Go Back To The Nail Shop (The Technician Messed The Up)?
Yes definitely go back you paid $ for the service also if I were you I would never go back there again because these things shouldn't have happened at all find another salonShould I Go Back To The Nail Shop (The Technician Messed The Up)?
I would def go back, they prob remember you since it has only been a day. I would explain the situation, then insist that you should not have to pay for it. So, I would just make it clear before you actually get any work done on your nail that you aren't paying.
i hate to answer a question with another question, but is a french tip anything like a dirty sanchez? go back to the nail salon and scratch that bitches eyes out.
Absolutely. They shouldn't charge you at all!!! Nails should last at LEAST two weeks. I wouldn't go back after they fix this though. Sounds like a really unprofessional place.
Go back, and they will fix them for you at no charge. It's happened to me a few times, and I always tip the person who fixes them.
I would go and ask them to redo the entire thing if possible. It should be free since they know you will always go back because they did a good job (and at least fixed their mistake).
yes you should go back in. they shouldn't, its their mistake. if they do, sue them.
yo should go and then tell the person that if their is a problem you told me to come back so go back
go back and let them no they fucked up lol

its catchy but im sure u cud come up with something better like polish and perms or something.....polish and preen ha i dunno!
Sorry cant say that I like it very much to be honest. I'm sure you will think of something better tho.
r u serious??? what does that name have to do with hair and nails
Yeah...the ';quiff'; thing's not working for me either.....i'd keep trying- especially if you're looking for professional and proper.
Quiff..?! . do you do Brazilians... ? yeh! Great Name...
    Not impressed at all,
I think it's terrible. I didn't know what ';quiff'; meant until I looked it up, and I feel confident most people don't. ';Quiff'; sounds dirty and is confusing I would intentionally steer away from a business called ';Scratch 'n' Quiff';. Something simple would be much better or a clearer play on words. ';Hair and Nails at your Home'; would even work -- I know it's not fun or catchy though.
    how about no!! its awful!!
i really dont like it. If your name is Hayley. how about Hayley's Hair and nails. Something simple and to the point.
i dnt really think it will appeal 2 many ppl gd luck thoe
well it,s definitely different try it for a while and if you get no joy just change it
I don't like it sorry, don't think I'd be drawn to place with that name.
that kinda makes me think of kiddies lip gloss! I dont think it would be a place i would try if i seen the name!! Try something that would appeal more!
i think it sounds a bit naff....

Nail technicians, what is your favourite WHITE GEL?

I have used Amore self leveling white, Amore ultra white builder, and another one, but i melted the lid so I don't know what it's called exactly but something like W international I think. Anyway, I want one that's good for sculpting nice, not-too-thick nails. Oh and I use forms, not tips. Thanks!Nail technicians, what is your favourite WHITE GEL?
I have tried several gel lines in the past. The ones that I have had the best luck with are Young Nails, and Akzentz. I find Akzentz gels to be a bit better in terms of workability though. YN tends to be a little too thin for me, but it works great for many techs.

Of course, LCN is arguably the best gel line that there is, but the cost of their gels are very high as they are made in Germany, and imported. So, you would have to weigh the cost vs. benefit with this line. Overall, their gels are great, but the cost is about 2-3 times that of a 'regular' gel.

Then there is CND Brisa gels. These work very well, and are widely available at most professional beauty supply stores.

I've tried others, but these are my favorites. Out of them all, I would have to give my vote to Akzentz. Their gels are quite workable, long-lasting, non-yellowing, and the cost of their products is about the same as other comparable gel lines. I'll give you the web sites to each.

All of them have various white gels available. But, I would highly recommend not mixing the various lines, though I know it is possible to do so in some cases. In short, you may want to purchase a trial kit from one or more of them and try the gels out to see if you like that particular line - or not. At least that way you will have the gels and other products you will need to get started with any one particular company's system. It's best not to mix and match among gel - or acrylic lines, in my opinion anyway.

is this some kind of a joke, since nail salons in U.S dominated by Vietnamese.

Try to ask yourself this, if Vietnamese in the U.S could make about$150 a day, would they make the same amount of money in ';North Africa'; ?[ I quote it, because there is no country name Africa].

If you wana employ some one from Vietnam, you could, but the craftsmanship couldn't guarantee. Either they reject it or they won't.

But try to post this question on Vietnamese yahoo Q/A.
I don't hold out much hope for your business if you have to turn to Q/A to ask such an important question, and i think the first thing you should do is see if Vietnamese people are allowed by your government to obtain a working visa.
that's kinda prejudice...don't ya think? anyways put ads in local newspaper !

Why do the nail technicians use lime juice when given a pedicure?

    lime juice whitens your nails

Nail Technicians what schools did you go to?

Look for a Contential School of Beauty. They are all over the country. You can do whatever you want, you don't have to do hair. Good luck! :)

Are nail technicians required to have insurance?

Not by LAW, but maybe by their landlords.

You buy insurance from your local agent.

Nail technicians.....can you apply a set of acrylic nails on a client that bites their nails?

I have started biting my nails again. I'd like to stop. I'm thinking that maybe if I have nice nails again that I'll break my habit. Again. Can I get them if I bite my nails way down? I'm not concerned about biting the fake nails. I'm just wondering if I can get fake nails if I hardly have real nails to apply them to.Nail technicians.....can you apply a set of acrylic nails on a client that bites their nails?
You can actually get fake nails even if you bite your nails down to nothing. I've gotten them and I am a serious nail bitter, but the only real problem i've had with them is that they bbreak off easier if your nails are short to begin with. But other then that, the nail place should be able to able either acrylic nails or a gel set. Remember that gel and fiberglass are more expensive but are actually stronger and better quality then the acrylic.Nail technicians.....can you apply a set of acrylic nails on a client that bites their nails?
no. most wont be able to build a nail onto it. if you can get bairly a free nail and you should be good. there is some polish you can get that is clear and has a horrible tast that is for people who bite there nails..hope it helps

Where can I find qualified nail technicians and beauty therapists for my business?

Look for the nearest colleges that specialize in that. Then, go staple a flyer to the kiosks. You could also visit the local establishments and talk to the people there.

  • My fingernails r broken, split, n cracked. Should I do what a nail technician says ?

Should I do what a nail technician says ?
There are many reasons for broken, split, cracked nails. Heredity, diet, health, injury, age, infection and probably a few more I can't think of.

If it's a fungal infection, you'll need to see a Dr. and get a prescription for Lamisil.

Otherwise, I'd get a proper manicure with base coat and top coat and if the nails are still that bad, I'd get the gel topping that the nail tech suggested. Whenever I've had a broken, cracked or split nail - due to injury or broken or snapped one off in cold dead of winter, I'd get a acrylic powder coating on top. It hardens clear and looks quite natural. You can then have it finished off as desired. They'll require some maintenance every 2 weeks until your own nails heal. All good. No bad. Just a few dollars expense.

There are also many products on the market to help heal and strengthen your nails. A visit to a local drug store or Internet shopping (8ty8beauty.com or SallyBeauty or Goddess Within all have great on-line stores) should turn up some of these products to try.

Trust me when I say that your significant other will like you to have nice, clean, professional looking nails; and you'll like them too.My fingernails r broken, split, n cracked. Should I do what a nail technician says ?
You should apply hard as nail clear to strengthen your nails. you should also soak them in epsom salt and warm/hot water. you should clean them with alcohol after using the epsom salt then apply a layer (or 10!!!) of hard as nails. take some vitamins (eaten) to stregthen nail and hair!
thats disgusting. you have the worst case of fungus ever known to man.

    sorry darling.

    it's called nastynailitis.

the only way to cure it is to put 10 tons of alcohol on that sucker.

maybe if you took more care of your nails, you wouldn't have this problem, now would we?

    thanks

Help?! Is it worth becoming a nail technician?

Hi there, I live in Kissimmee, Florida and I am very passionate about doing nails. I would say that I am pretty talented with art and i have alot of really cool designs and ideas that people really dont see here. i have already purchased everything I need, even a pedicure chair! There is a hispanic/american hair salon nearby and the owner is willing to rent the nail desk and office ( so i can put the pedicure chair inside ) for $100 per week. I would be the only nail technician. I dont know, I have this great passion, and soo many good ideas and about 10 steady clients to start, but something still worries me........the economy i dont know what?......No matter what it is an investment and I am hoping to succeed. Is there anyone who knows anything about this buisness? or who can give any advice?...How much money is possible to make?Help?! Is it worth becoming a nail technician?
Yes, you can make a good living doing nails, especially if you are passionate %26amp; talented! But if you really want to pursue a career in the nail industry, you have to be prepared to stay in it even if you don't see ';big'; money at first. The money will come, it will be steady, and it will be good money IF you:

    1. Get educated and stay educated. If you haven't gone to school and gotten your license, do it. Once you have your license, keep it current and get additional training by going to trade shows and classes offered by manufacturers and nail professionals. You can command more money when you are legit and you will be respected by clients and other nail professionals.

    2. Care about building your business. Don't be wishy-washy with your hours or your prices. Be at your nail station whether you have clients or not. You can get tons of money from walk-in clients but you have to be there. Hand out cards to EVERYBODY. Get in the habit of thinking ';every person with nail beds is a potential client';.

    3. Learn how to do ALL services. Don't say ';I won't do pedicures because I hate feet';. Pedicures will bring you sooooo much money in the summer you'll be beating clients away.

    4. Don't ';deep discount'; if you are in a salon and paying booth rent. Instead, run specials. But your friends and family will run you out of business trying to get a full set for $15. Your business puts food on your table. And don't do nails at your home, ESPECIALLY if you are paying booth rent or working in a salon. Can you go to ';Mary's'; house and get a Big Mac? No, you have to go to McDonald's. Same with your services.

    5. Stay connected to other nail techs - not just around your neighborhood, but around the world. There are great forums like BeautyTech.com where you can ask questions and get motivation. You will need it on those slow days. And the ultimate website for information, training, and motivation is the Tammy Taylor website. Once you go there, you'll be checking it everyday.

God Bless!Help?! Is it worth becoming a nail technician?
yeah, it's a good place to start off and if your as good as you say your customer popularity will grow and you can get a promotion or something.
omg i love Kissimmee....was there few weeks ago!!

well if you bought everything you need then you may as well!! i dont know anything about business[sorry!!] but i think this would be a great thing to do!..when i was in florida i noticed that many many people have patterned fake and real nails,so you'd definately get people in!!

also,do you have links to pictures of your designs and ideas?because i love doing my own nails and i'd love some inspiration!![id go to your salon, but i live in ireland!!!]

If you make the nails strong and make great designs, you will have customers. I just got back from vacation in Chicago and Kissimmee and lots of ladies stopped my daughter to see her nails and many said they don't see nails like that over there. (I live in PR). So do good work and really focus on the designs and you should do very well. Good Luck

A friend of mine told me that I can become a nail technician without going to school first?

I was enrolled in a nail technician course at a local cosmetology school but the course was canceled last minute. A friend told me that I didn't need to go to beauty school, that I could get some training in a local nail salon and then I could take the state licensing test. Is this true or am I right to think that she is wrong?A friend of mine told me that I can become a nail technician without going to school first?
You have to check with your state board. Some states may allow that, but all I know of require a minimum number of school hours in order to take board exam - as you have to learn sanitation, nail disease, and clean procedure.A friend of mine told me that I can become a nail technician without going to school first?
    Possibly.

This would be a form of apprenticeship and/or ';on job training';.

You should inquire from the licensing agency as whether or not this is permissible in that occupation.

Is it legal to do people's nail without a nail technician license?

    Hi,

I am from Taiwan and I learned how to do Acrylic nail during the summer while I visited home.

Asian nail is more colorful, sparkling and more designed than the nail you do here in US.

I learned it so I can do my own nail since I moved here. But people have been asking me to do their nail when they see mine, and of course I'm going to charge them money for it.

Now I wonder if it is legal to do more than just friend's nail. I am not a nail technician and I do not have a license of it.

I just want to do it part time. I could have them come to my apartment or I can do it at their house.

I just don't want to get in trouble and leave something on my record since I'm going to be NY state certified teacher.

Please let me know! Thank you.Is it legal to do people's nail without a nail technician license?
its illegal but a lot of people do it

If you back out now, you'll regret it. I can tell you're just getting nervous about the whole situation. Whether the economy is bad or not, people (notably women) will forever enjoy getting their nails done.

Maybe you should advertise a little bit more and give a couple family members and friends some free samples of what you'd be offering. The word about your nail business will spread quickly if you manage to network your talents.

Relax and good luck :).Help?! Is it worth becoming a nail technician?
Your customers will let you know how much they are willing to spend on their nails. I suggest you to have a variety of prices, once you are settled you can work on that level.

Listen to your customers, some can afford a 100 dlls job, some others are only willing to spend 12 dlls job.

    Good luck!
I know a vietnames girl who works at a walmart nail salon and she drives a brand new sportscar and put herself through ';real'; college
sorry , but the illegal chinese immigrants have this industry sewn up .you would be competing with folks that pay the workers zip . they live on tips only .
You have already invested a lot into it. I would encourage you to go for it. You sound very positive and creative. That is what it takes to go far in the business. As long as you are people friendly. If I were in your area I would go to you just to see what ideas you have. I used to paint my nails with flags for 4th of July and Veterans Day and such. I painted shamrocks for St. Pats Day and x-mas trees and Santa faces for X-mas. The economy is only bad if you don't get out there and make all you can to benefit yourself. Good luck to you. I know you will be very successful. Follow your dream and your heart. It sounds like your heart is in the right place and you are willing to make others happy. I would say to keep your prices reasonable. Check around the internet sites and see what the going rates are for the things you do and go from there. If you don't at least try it you will regret it later. You will never know how good the business will be if you don't at least give it a starting chance. Be sure to do a lot of advertising in the beginning. But word of mouth is the best asvertisement you can get. If a person is happy with your work then they will send other to you and they will in turn tell otheras and before you know it you will have all of the business you can handle.
All I have to say is, GO FOR IT. It's your passion, you like to do it, and you're good at it! How many people can say that about their job, seriously? There's a large percent of people who are unhappy with their jobs and careers. The fact that you'll be the only nail tech there is also a good thing, most likely you'll be making more money than the rest of the people working there and you won't have any competition there either. The economy IS bad right now, but this job sounds like a good place to start off. Go for it, see how it goes, but ALWAYS keep your eye out for other opportunities. Maybe a better known salon? A salon in the middle of a large commerce? Maybe a salon that doesn't need to charge you a desk or possibly even pays more? Do your research and work girl!
if i were you, i would ask them for a raise. if they five you up to $200 or more. take it. if it is less dont take it. my mom was a nail techinician and she asked for a raise and got $250. try to ask them that. good luck!

I didn't tip the nail technician...10 points best answer?

I got my nails done today for the first time ever. I told the guy who was doing my nails that it was my first time. I expected to pay about 30 dollars and I got charged 35 and when he was finished I paid, and then he just pushed his chair back and said ';bye have a good night'; and I left and as I was driving home I realized that I didn't give a tip... and I checked the receipt and they didn't add it on to that either...

I feel bad for leaving without tipping him!

I guess I was just distracted, oops!

Has that ever happened to you?I didn't tip the nail technician...10 points best answer?
you know, dont make such a big deal about, it was your first time. you atleast meant to tip the guy. if you see him you can just apologize, and actually give a tip.I didn't tip the nail technician...10 points best answer?
yes! i had the same thing happen to me last week, at a nail salon also.

i guess we dont really think about tipping them? WHOOPS :) haha.

but its okay, your a teenager (im guessing), so they probably know teens arent the best at tipping anyways.
    tip them high next time
My mom is a nail technician and the people in the salon absolutely HATE people that doesn't tip. She talks about it all the time, people who don't tip. Whenever a person that is known to tip little or does not tip at all walks in, they all kind of cringe. So maybe next time, you should tip a little more than your usual tip, just to get them to not cringe when they see you and just apologize or something and say you forgot. Except if you're a 12-17 year old kid, young kids have an exception cause they're young and might not have a lot of money.

I want to become a nail technician?

My hair stylist lady told me about a school that you go to when your a junior/senior in high school. You go to high school during the day, then go to this school during the evening and you graduate high school, your a licensed nail technician..

I wanted to look it up because i was thinking about doing that.

But i cant remember the name of the school..

its like vortex or vortec or something like that..

I really wanna eventually open my own like beauty parlor thing.

I've wanted to be a nail technician for a long time and I'm only 15 and have been offered a job somewhere.

but ive also been thinking about getting into massage therapy and makeup and hair.

So going to this school would let me get kinda a head start.

I'm also going to a school that lets me graduate high school with my AA degree.

    So my question is:

Do you know what the name of that school is?

and do you think this is a good like career plan for me?I want to become a nail technician?
she may have said vo-tech which is just a term for any vocational school. you may want to do some research first. every state has their own laws governing the beauty industry but i'm pretty sure that each state requires a person to be a highschool graduate in order to even be allowed to enroll in any of the beauty fields (cosmetology, skin care, nail tech and massage therapy). so before you even look at the school, look up the state laws for your state.

if you want to eventually open a salon, you may want to consider cosmetology. that license will allow you to practice hair, skin and nails. massage would have to be separate. also certain state laws will also dictate who can manage a salon. for example, in NJ anyone can own a salon, but only a licensed cosmetologist with at least 5 years experience can manage a salon.

as for whether this is the right career plan, only you can answer that. I have an BS in Hospitality Manage, emt and business Administration, but after 10+ years in coorporate america, i switched gears and I am now a licensed esthetician, nail technician and massage therapist. i absolutely love it, but that's just me. next time you're out at a salon or spa, ask your technician what they love most about their job and what they like the least. this may help you make a decision.

On that note, here are mine: i love that everyday is a different day at work and working in an upscale spa has allowed me to give the legendary Aretha Franklin a mani and pedi!!! what i dislike about my job is when it's slow or I'm not getting paid (since I am a commission paid employee).

Hope this helps and good luck!!!

What legal status for a nail technician in the UK?

    Hi all,

I would like a little clarification regarding the legal status one must assume as a freelance nail technician in Scotland.

I will soon be starting my nail tech courses after which I intend to work as a freelance nail tech in Scotland. I would like to know if I have to register a company with Companies House, (i.e do I have to invent myself a company name, ';Sally's Nails';, for instance), or, can I simply be a freelance professional who signs her own name and does her own taxes.

Thank you for the clarification! What legal status for a nail technician in the UK?
If you register as a limited company then no-one else can register with that name.

However, a sole trader could use the same name.

If you register the name as a trademark (different thing) then no-one is then allowed to use that name for trading. (quite hard to find out if they are though unless you are a multi-national company).

TBH you should just simply use your name (i.e. sally's Nails), register with HMRC as self-employed and go for it.

If you register as a Ltd. company then there are a lot more rules and regulations regarding tax, N.I. etc that you have to conform to.

you should definitely register your name, or someone else could take it, and then sue you for using it

  • Gel nail technicians, which is the most durable, easy to work with gel brand?

I've been using IBD and I don't like it, it's rubbery no matter how long you cure it. Which brand is the best and the strongest?Gel nail technicians, which is the most durable, easy to work with gel brand?
I like Akzentz gels a lot. They are both durable, and quite workable as well. It's not all that expensive. But, like any good gel - it's not cheap either though not quite up in the LCN price range. Overall though, I find these gels to be a really good product line, they're affordable, and should you run into any problems with this line, help is only a phone call away. They are really good about training and support. Here is the company's web site if you are interested in finding out more.

Click on 'Distributors' to find someone in your area that sells this brand. As far as the curing problem goes:

    - Are you using a really good quality 36 watt UV lamp (four 9 watt bulbs)? The cheaper ones often have problems with curing gels.

    - Are you changing your bulbs on a regular basis - at least once every six months?

    - And if so, are you using top quality bulbs? The best UV bulbs are sold by Sylvania, and Philips. This can make a huge difference in how well a gel cures. Cheap bulbs will usually not work well. They don't last long at all usually.

    - Do you regularly clean the bulbs to remove dust? This can have an effect on the curing as well.

    - Are you applying the gel too thick? This will have an effect on curing as well. Thick gel tends to cause heat spikes, and also not cure properly. Always better to work in thinner layers of gel, than with thick layers.

Here is a great technical brochure from Light Elegance, another gel company. It goes into all sorts of detail about UV bulbs, lamps, UV light intensity and more. Also covered are UV gel type comparisons, troubleshooting and so much more. I highly recommend reading it:

The local county vo-tech school should have a course for nail technician. You seem to be in the UK, and perhaps there is an affordable program for nails as opposed to those private $$ schools. I believe that one needs to be certified from an accredited program for nail tech to perform those services. Please make sure to have great ventilation as the nail chemicals can cause irritation and damage.

you don't have to go to college but you do need to be licensed. usually you need to go through a training program and get so many hours of experience.
